WORKSHOP DESCRIPTIONS Oct 1st - Yoga for Anxiety and Stress Reduction Stress is an inevitable part of life, so how can each of us deal with stress and anxiety in a way that leads to growth, rather than becoming overwhelmed by it? This special 2-hour long workshop is designed to give you the tools you need to create a sense of calm and confidence no matter what life throws at you. Yoga based movement and breath work melded with insight into how stress works in your body will leave you with a stress management tool kit designed uniquely for your needs. Ages 15 and above and all levels of fitness welcome. Nov 5th - Yoga for Body Image and Relationship with Food What we put in our body is a representation of how we feel about ourselves. Dowe eat when not hungry or not eat when hungry? What do we choose to eat? When we look in the mirror, what thoughts go through our heads? Marrying a plethora of research about food, body image, and eating habits with yoga inspired healing interventions, this class will explore the art of loving our bodies and ourselves. Over a period of two hours we will practice breath work, gentle stretching and movement, mindfulness based meditative practices, and learn healthy eating strategies. You will leave with a plan for health as well as a higher level of self-awareness and compassion. Ages 15 and above and all levels of fitness welcome. Dec 3rd - Yoga for Sleep and Insomnia Are you sleeping too much? Too little? Having a hard time falling asleep or waking up often during the night? Sleep is absolutely imperative for us to operate as our best selves (physically, mentally, and emotionally), yet many people are not getting the sleep that serves them best. Uniting best sleep practices oft taught by health care professionals with yoga-based interventions (movement, breath work, meditation), participants will leave with a toolbox full of practices to improve sleep. All (15 and above) are welcome. Dec 10th - Yoga for Anxiety and Stress Reduction * Special Holiday Focus * Due to the popularity of this workshop, Maria is bringing it back for a special holiday version of the original. In this delightful and empowering workshop participants will gain a deeper understanding of what stress and anxiety are, how they manifest in the body, and how to decrease their presence in our lives. This workshop will explore breath, meditation, and yoga based movements that help us stay calm and centered no matter what the holidays might bring up for you. All levels welcome, ages 15 and above. Jan 7th - Building Healthy Relationships with Partner Yoga Being in relationship (be it parent/child, romantic partnership, friendship, or anything else) is perhaps the most challenging and most rewarding experience of being human. In this joyful and interesting workshop participants will use playful partner-based yoga movements and intentional joint meditative practices to learn ways to strengthen their bonds to the people they care about. An interesting discussion of the psychological concept of attachment theory (basically why it’s important to connect with others) will weave in and out of fun yoga-based exercises that will leave you feeling relaxed, connected, and delighted to be in relationship. All levels of yoga experience welcome, ages 15 and above. Feb 4th - Yoga for the Winter Blues Who doesn’t start to feel a little down this time of year in Seattle? The lack of sunlight, reduction in time spent outdoors, and the cold and rain can leave us feeling tired, heavy, and lacking motivation. Join Maria in this workshop designed to chase away the winter blues! Attendees will learn the art of turning negative thought patterns and physical habits into more joyful and productive practices. Because the physical movement portion of this workshop is designed to build some internal heat, at least basic awareness of yoga movements will be helpful. Experience the power of setting a collective intention of health, harmony, and happiness. Ages 15 and above welcome. March 3rd - Yoga for Positive Parenting Parenting. It’s a joy, a struggle, and everything in between. Join Maria Williquette, Registered Yoga Teacher and Marriage and Family Therapist, for an informative look at ways to parent more effectively and to decrease your and your child’s stress as well. During this two hour workshop, parents will have the opportunity to connect with other parents in a safe, fun, and non-shaming environment. We will explore child development (ages and stages), empirically validated parenting techniques, and perhaps most importantly yogic inspired techniques to reduce stress, guilt, anxiety, and other counter-productive by-products of parenting. Adults only please, no experience with yoga required. Wear comfortable clothing as we will be practicing gentle yoga poses.
